-The Prestige
Tonight while Lauren was agonizing over a rough draft, Ashuhlee and her straight hair were watching Donny (yes, the New Kid on the Block) in his cinematic debut in Saw 2 which was released very long ago, and Ford was busy getting some action from his lovely Nicolibear, it just so happened that Rachel, Natalie, and my lovely little self settled into some cushy seats in theatre fourteen at Swamp Fox Cinema to watch what will quickly become one of the greatest films in cinematic history. That's right, ladies and gentlemen, we went to see The Prestige. And if you only see one movie this year, then yeah, you're pretty lame, but if you do indeed only see just one, then this should definitely be it.
Though Christian Nolan, in my opinion, has always done an outstanding job from his director's chair, I quickly decided I didn't want to see The Prestige, dismissing it as a move about magicians and nothing more. Now I know I was selling this film extremely short. This, as it stands, is the definitive work of Nolan's career, his opus. It is cinematic, though possibly not box office, gold.
This movie deserves a huge award, and if it is looked over at Oscar time, then we need to get some new members into the Academy.
I want to say so much about it, but I don't want to reveal anything because every single person in the world needs to see this film. The movie is absolutely amazing, and it reveals a great message about what one must sacrifice to always be the prestige, the man in the box, and the one receiving the applause. As Jeanette Winterson and my e-mail signature always say, "What you risk reveals what you value."
Go see it. I want to talk more about it with you.
